Ogden Startup Weekend 2012

Have you heard about Startup Weekend? Well if not, you are in for a treat! Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

If that sounds interesting, you are in luck! Weber State University, Ogden City, and local entrepreneurs are collaborating to bring the first Startup Weekend event to Ogden from November 1-3! It will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center at the Junction, and there’s going to be a ton of motivated people there. The event kicks off on Thursday night at 6:30pm with dinner and a welcome and runs through Saturday night with the final judging and awards.

Alex Lawrence, who you may remember from our previous spotlight, is organizing it. And the best part – you don’t need to be a programming whiz to be there. When registering, you can opt for a developer, designer, or non-technical and get access to the event plus some sweet food all for $99.

If you’re interested, check out the website for more details and to register! I’ll be there, along with several folks from Hack Ogden, so I can personally guarantee you’ll have a good time. There’s also some neat videos that give a bit more background:
