Few things fill my heart with joy as much as a bowl of fresh fruit. Unadorned, no sugar, whipped cream, or yogurt needed… just good, fresh fruit. Carlos Produce keeps my breakfast bowl full of the good stuff, without breaking the bank.
In the summer, Carlos is full of fresh local produce from all over the state. Utah peaches are one of my favorites, I wait every year for them to be available and when they are, my whole family rejoices. Carlos offers their produce by the pound of course but also by case or flat, so if you really love something that is in season, its a great way to save money and stock up for canning or freezing as well. My children are absolute apple fiends, and buying by the bag or case from Carlos not only saves us trips to the store but saves us money.
This location of Carlo’s Produce was opened in 1985 in by the the Sacco’s, and the Italian family have owned produce stands from Jackson hole to Layton Utah since the early 1900′s. One of the best things about Carlos is the staff, including Carlos himself. A true produce stand, this mostly outdoor building is cold in the winter and hot in the summer, but it is kept comfortable. They care about the quality of everything they sell, and everyone is friendly and ready to help you pick the freshest, best quality, or best ingredient for your recipe.
Carlos has all the standard fruits and veggies, but they also carry basic staples you might need at a moments notice- which is helpful for me living only a few blocks away. Milk, bread, eggs, cheese, bacon, butter… if you are in a rush, Carlos has everything you need to prepare a meal. They also have spices, tortillas, some canned goods, bulk items, from candy to nuts and seeds, and local homemade jams, jellies and honey.
One of my favorite things about Carlos is I never pay more than I would at a large grocery store, but I know I am getting a great quality product and they can tell me exactly where it came from. In the summer, if you’re lucky you might even see fresh produce being delivered- Straight from farmer to produce stand. I feel the same way about Rancho Market! We buy nearly all of our fresh food there (Meat & veg, when Farmer’s Market isn’t open). Since we eat almost no packaged stuff, that means they provide most of our food!
great article My family is awesome at what they do my brother and father which owns Carlo’s produce have a great love for family business!
