Tuesday nights are a big deal in Ogden lately with locals gathering at Steiny’s grill to watch a heated competition while chowing down on some amazing burgers. These folks aren’t at Steiny’s to cheer on any sports team, they are gathering to watch So You Think You Can Dance and to vote for Ogden’s very own Malece Miller.
Malece began dancing and training in gymnastics at age 5 at local spots such as Northern Star Bounders, Jazz Dance Studio and Ogden’s Infinity Dance. Once she graduated from Northridge High school in Layton she set off for L.A to compete for a spot at an agency and out of over 400 dancers who auditioned Malece was one of 2 selected. For the past year she has been in California training and perusing her dream of becoming a professional dancer .
After not getting accepted onto ‘So you think you can dance’ last year at the SLC auditions, Malece told her mother she would not be trying out again but one week before the auditions she called home to say she was giving it one more shot so she could prove to herself that she could at least make it to Vegas. Malece not only made it to Vegas but is now one of the top competitors and has been going strong ever since.
Malece’s mother Wendy has been a huge supporter and has organized these gatherings at Steiny’s to cheer on her daughter and to rally vote to keep her on the show. ”This whole process seems surreal at times” She says, ”One day I wake up and think is this just a dream? Then I realize it is really happening.”. All this local support is paying off and it looks like Malece may be going all the way to the top.
Watch So You Think You Can Dance Tuesdays at 8PM or head over to Steiny’s Family Sports Grill to cheer her on with her fans. Be sure to ‘like’ her fan page at https://www.facebook.com/Dance10Malece and vote to keep her in the competition!
