6th Annual Indie Ogden Awards Recap & Results!

Photo by Bryan Butterfield at Image and Film- https://imageandfilm.com/

For so long Ogden has gotten a bad rap, a reputation long gone but one that has lingered for decades. The indie Ogden Awards is Ogden’s way of saying ‘put us down, call us names, avoid us at all cost, but you’re missing out on one hell of a party.’

Before we begin anything I must start by thanking Tony Duffy from Lightning Man Promotions and She Shreds. When the awards planning first began many months ago,  I was overwhelmed and ready to call it off. Tony sat with me at Grounds for coffee and said ‘if you’re in, I am in’ and told me we shouldn’t let this tradition die. TRadition. In all of the chaos, I hadn’t realized that this event had become our tradition. Tony was not about to let that die. He has rallied volunteers, sponsors and helped bring ideas to life that seemed impossible. If you need someone by your side, that is your man.

These awards are not bought. They are not bribed. They are not the result of carefully crafted sponsorships. These are community nominated, and community voted. But you won’t find any cutthroat competition here.  These awards bring the community together.  Businesses who are competing for the title of the best cheer each other on when one wins. Because in Ogden, we rally together.

Congrats to all the winners of this year’s awards and thank you to ALL local businesses for making this town the best town around.

Admiral Beverage and affiliated companies have been quenching the thirst of the Pepsi generation for over 50 years. Thanks to a chance meeting with a Denver Pepsi-Cola bottler in 1945, Newell Sargent decided to leave his employment at George W. Clayton College for Boys and venture into the soft drink business. A two-year search for a small bottling plant led Mr. Sargent and his wife, Mabel, to Worland, Wyoming. The Sergeants’ sold their home and borrowed money from both of their parents and an aunt and purchased the Worland Bottling Plant. They opened for business as Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in June of 1947. The one-production line operation bottled two flavors, Pepsi-Cola and Nesbitt Orange. In the early days in Worland, Mr. Sargent batched, and Mrs. Sargent ran the twelve spout Diamond filler. Two full-time employees completed the workforce that produced, sold and distributed 1100 cases a week. It was a modest beginning to a group of affiliated companies that now employ over 1600 employees with 35 facilities operating in an eight-state region, and producing 48 flavors and brands in bottles and cans.

Nurture The Creative Mind
We the Nurture, the Creative Mind Foundation, are the positive counter investment to the sometimes negative investment of the media, society, music, and all other forms of negative stimulus up to and including the youth themselves. We do this because we understand that a positive investment in our youth today virtually ensures a brighter tomorrow. We do this because proactive, positive attention greatly lessens the need for negative attention later. We do this because failing youth is the BLAME of the society that has failed them. When we ask what has happened to our youth? All we need to do is look toward ourselves, and there the answer will be.
We help young people see the value in themselves and the worth of others. We illustrate how regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, and other various backgrounds, all are important and should be respected and appreciated as a basic rule and not a luxury. All of this we do with the colorfully distracting packaging of creative expressions such as creative writing, music and visual arts. So if you have questions concerning what it is we do; look toward the place where you will find our future, just look toward the youth we work with. They will display what it is we do and the importance of it. It is in them that the Nurture the Creative Mind ideals become a tangible reality. We are the positive counter investment; this is what we do.
