Event Spotlight: NCM’s Fe5tival Anniversary Party

Nurture the Creative Mind is celebrating their 8th anniversary in style with a huge celebration of art, music and creativity. I sent them a few questions about the event so read on to learn more and don’t forget to get your tickets at www.nurturethecreativemind.com/donate.

What is Fe5tival?

Fe5tival is Nurture the Creative Mind’s 8th anniversary party and annual fundraiser. It will truly be Utah’s greatest art experiences. The set up will be similar to other arts festivals with all of the following: 25 artists, including Ogden’s youth and local professionals, who will be creating their artwork live and auctioning it off; over 100 of Utah’s top entertainers performing dance, music and more live; some of Ogden’s top restaurants will be serving their food, as well as demoing their techniques; and there will be interactive exhibits where attendees can engage in creativity also! There will also be a raffle and silent auction of local goods during the entire event.

I’d like to note, all drinks and food served at the event will be at no additional cost after the ticket fee.

Where did the name come from and what does the 5 stand for?

There are many definitions for the word “festival,” but most will include, “community,” “a celebration,” an “annual event,” an event filled with “musical performances,” “during the holiday season,” and all of those elements fit this event. It is to celebrate community and art expression. It will encompass musical and visual art performances. Also, it is annual since it’s the Nurture the Creative Mind foundation’s anniversary party.

The number five is integrated into the name because we wanted to focus on engaging all FIVE senses. Too many times these days we only focus on sight. We read texts, watch YouTube, read Facebook posts, look at Instagram photos… But when do we really take the time to feel the music? Focus on tasting handcrafted food? Listen to our youth? Or simply smell the roses? This event is inspired by our five senses, because we want to create a culture of engagement and expression, through more than a Facebook status.

What can guest expect to experience at the event?

Guest can expect to be exposed to sensory overload! They can expect to be amazed by youth artists and inspired by local professionals. Most of all, they can expect to be not only a guest but an important part of the evening and Nurture the Creative Mind’s year by supporting their fundraiser.

What is Nurture the Creative Mind?

A nonprofit foundation in Ogden that focuses on empowering youth to express themselves through the arts. The foundation offers free after-school courses for Jr High and High School, in photography, writing, design, painting, ceramics and more. They started eight years ago and have recently expanded to New York. Located at the heart of Ogden, in the Historic Union Station. Amir Jackson, the founder and director, puts his heart into giving the youth confidence and marketable skills. Amir believes that everything we invest in our youth, will better or future.

What are you most excited about the event?

I am most excited to see the community engaged in creativity and coming together to support a program for Ogden’s youth.

If I were an attendee, I would be most excited for the interactive exhibits we have planned, they are going to be unique and unforgettable.
