Stop & Smell the Flowers

The Ogden art community and Giv Group are pleased to announce Stop & Smell the Flowers, a pop-up solo exhibition featuring work by Alexis Furlong. “Due to the transition in social norms, many now prefer convenience over the inconvenient because of the elongated practice of everyday tasks and its accessories. We produce, reproduce, build, rebuild, and create. This process is no longer invention, but has become sustainability.Alexis Furlong has chosen to imitate a greenhouse full of, and decorated with, beautiful flowers and their scent. While the illusion of this beauty fades, the reality resonates. Each “hand-picked” flower was made with a machine. While weaving through the intricate display, one may think “why?” Why this avant-garde presentation? Furlong contemplates the synthetic world we live in, where artificial objects build an effortless way of life. In a place so overstimulated, is there room for the natural? This mimesis suggests that it’s either all or none, and we seem to be choosing the latter.” 582 25th St.
