Halloween Costume Adventure At Deseret Industries Thrift!

It’s Halloween season, and costume stores are popping up all over Ogden, but there’s one local place where you can find one of a kind costumes that you won’t find anywhere else (and won’t break the bank!).  I went for a little adventure to my local  Deseret Industries thrift store with some friends to find this year’s epic costume, and the DI did not disappoint.

You won’t find a huge Halloween section at the DI, but the hunt is the best part of this adventure. In our local DI, we found everything from high-end Disney Costumes to DIY hilarity. To make your trip an epic win, I compiled a list of tips and tricks that we learned on our adventure. Check it out and get out there and find your costume!

1.Go with at least 5 costumes in mind.  You never know what you will find at the DI, keep your options open!

2.Go with an open mind. If you know exactly what you want and are unwilling to compromise, the DI might not be for you. If you are up for a challenge and are willing to use a bit of imagination, you are going to find the perfect costume.

3.Think outside the box! Use your imagination when looking for items for your costume. Look at the electronics, toys, and household items for unique parts for your getup.

4.Try on EVERYTHING. Fill up the cart and try on anything that you want. Laughing at how ridiculous you look is half the fun. Just don’t forget to hand things back up nicely on the return rack, the employees will appreciate it.

5.DIY! Everything can be altered, bedazzled, painted, ripped and repurposed to your hearts content so don’t limit yourself.

So what did I choose? I snagged a fantastic muumuu and a bunch of toy cats for my awesome cat lady costume. The best part? It was all for $6!Of course I had to buy 3 more costumes for myself and  a few for the kiddos at that great price.
