I have a confession to make. I have a hard time shopping local when it comes to clothes.
I mean, is it just my own introverted weirdness, or does anyone else get just a little intimidated when stepping into a local clothing boutique? Between the awkward feeling of being the a solitary customer, to the possibility of overzealous shop owners, to (come on you know we’re all thinking it) downright sticker shock, sometimes I just want to flee for the nearest Target.
Here’s the thing though. Our little O-town is starting to set some fashion trends across the country. What better reason for us locals to venture inside some of our own shops, right? And hey it’s a new year. Time to break out of those old comfort zones! So last week, I spent an afternoon visiting a few of Ogden’s clothing boutiques, many of them for the first time.
Fellow introverts, I have some good news. Ogden is full of fun and trendy boutiques, most of which are not owned by overzealous shopkeepers, and also have clothes we can actually purchase without a promissory note.
That day I visited Bravura Boutique, Ume Boutique, All about Socks and on the way home, I stopped at Bella Me Boutique in North Ogden. I can honestly say I had a great experience at all of these places, and you should definitely check them out. But I wanted to highlight Bella Me here, because I think sometimes North Ogden businesses get a bad rap for being unapproachable or uppity and in most cases, that just isn’t true.
Bella Me Boutique is right off of Washington Boulevard at about 1900 North in North Ogden. The space is small but comfortable. The store is filled with an eclectic variety of the latest fashion trends, everything ranging from camo-print leggings to Aztec print hoodies, from ruffly vests to those simple cardigans a girl could just live in. Prices range anywhere from around $10 to in the $70s for jackets and such. But- this was my favorite part- there were several featured items around the $20 range and a clearance rack to die for! There were lots of great outfit ideas in the displays, and the staff was ultra friendly, but super casual. I always appreciate being acknowledged when I come into a store, and then left alone to browse, and that’s exactly what happened at Bella Me. Another customer was trying to match a sweater to a skirt she’d bought and the staff went out of their way to help her find just the right look.
If you follow Bella Me on Facebook, you’ll be privy to all the new arrivals, latest sales, markdowns and even giveaways. They also have a punch card that gets you discounts for return visits. One employee told me that they sell and get new arrivals so often, it’s like a new store every week. Gotta love that not everyone at your next party is going to be wearing that same Old Navy sweater, right?
So, my breaking out of my comfort zone and venturing into some of Ogden’s local clothing shops was a great way to start the new year. I came out of Bella Me with a giant bag—two sweaters, a button-up shirt and a pretty scarf for under $60. Bella Me is sure to become one of my favorite places to shop, and I’ll definitely be venturing into more of Ogden’s boutiques in the near future. I hope you’ll do the same.
