Indie Ogden Review & Spotlight: Hippie Skin

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI am about to do something I didn’t think I would be ok doing, I am going to show off my makeup free face.  As a teen I suffered from awful acne and still have the dark scars as a result. It’s hard for me to go makeup free even when my skin is clear because of them. I was excited to try out Hippie Skin to help regulate my oily skin and clear up some stress breakouts but I was not expecting it to fade my scars.

I have used the exact same product on my skin since I was 17, just plain witch hazel. It has worked great at keeping my skin oil free  but every now and then I would still get big breakouts. The first few days using Hippie Skin Luxe seemed to increase the oil levels of my skin but I told myself to stick with it, after all my skin was adjusting to an entirely new routine. Around the 4th day my skin seems to absorb the moisturizer and was left with a matte feeling, not oily at all. I also noticed my scars  fading and the breakout I had at my hairline was going away.

After a week the results were amazing, my scars were actually fading away.  I have tried every trick before- Vitamin E, cocoa butter, serums and creams and nothing faded my scars  like this. After almost 2 weeks I went makeup-free outside and I didn’t have a panic attack about it, I even got a compliment on my glowing skin.

Overall I loved the results, loved the delicious smells and most of all I loved that I knew what every ingredient was. All Hippie Skin products are made with all natural ingredients, in fact you could eat it and be fine…actually, I will admit to tasting Hippie Skin Honey and it was actually kind of tasty. In a world full of dangerous chemicals it’s nice to use something that I know will not harm me.

I sent the owner, Bethany Larson, some questions about the company. Read on to learn all about Hippie Skin!

**I was gifted 2 products but all opinions are my  own, I was not compensated or required to write this review.

1- What inspired you to start Hippie Skin?
My lifestyle sort of revolves around natural living – and finding natural skin care is next to impossible.  Even the brands I found that touted “organic” ingredients only had 3 or 4 actual organic ingredients, then it’s back to chemicals and/or ingredients I can’t pronounce.  I would seriously spend WAY too much time at the store studying ingredient labels, only to decide that none of them were good enough for my skin.  So I took a different approach.  I grow my own food throughout the year, so I thought, “Why not make my own skin care?”  and it took off from there!

2- What kinds of ingredients do you use?
First and foremost, I use local whenever possible.  Keeping it local is very important to me, especially as a small business owner in the community.  Organic is incredibly important, but with honey and oils it’s VERY hard to find (mostly because bees travel, so you can’t really say ANY honey is organic), so I research the crap out of all my ingredients and only purchase ingredients from companies that practice fair trade, organically grown, and environmentally conscious practices.
3- What are the benefits of the coconut oil and honey?
There are way too many to list – but they are super beneficial for skin.  Here are my top 3 for each:
1 – Penetrates deep into the skin for lasting moisture and softness, and it can actually reduce signs of aging as extra moisture in the skin provides a “plumping” effect.
2 – Protects the skin from microbial infections, making it great for everyday use as well as acne prone skin.
3 – Make up remover/make up primer.  I’m not kidding.  It works better than any make up remover/primer I have ever tried.
1 – Honey also has enzymes that minimize pores and reduce bacteria on the skin, so it’s great for cleansing, and it also penetrates the skin to retain moisture.
2 – It’s a natural, gentle exfoliant.  It’s important to remove dead skin cells, and it also helps to reduce signs of aging!
3 – It brightens skin.  Which is awesome for lightening scars and increasing tissue regeneration, which aids in healing.
4-How are your products different or better than conventional cleansers and moisturizers?

I would say the thing that sets Hippie Skin apart from all other cleansers and moisturizers (natural included) is the decision not to put butters, fillers, or waxes in ANY of our products.  These ingredients simply sit on the skin and are not fully absorbed, which is why we find ourselves using more, or going back for more. The Hippie Skin oil blends actually penetrate the skin and provide moisture and benefits from the outside in.  The oil blends last a long time, and they feel great – oleating the skin is a practice that has been around for centuries, and a lot of our formulations are rooted in the ancient practice of Ayurveda.

5-How can folks find your amazing products?
Currently, Hippie Skin is sold online at and at Blooming Lotus Imports on 25th St.  We do offer free delivery to our Ogden friends through the website, and Stephanie down at Blooming Lotus is very knowledgeable as she uses the products herself, so she is always happy to answer questions and guide consumers to the best products for their skin care needs.
