Local Business spotlight: French Kiss Fitness

Ladies! Admit it, sometimes you just want to feel sexy. The quickest way to do that is to take a pole dancing class from French Kiss Fitness! Each class you learn fast spins and climbs—I call it vertical gymnastics. You’ll say, “How the hell did I do that?” after each session. It’s an unconventional way to work out like many of the other options at F.K.F. Break dancing, belly dancing, chair dancing, classical ballet, aerial silks, to name a few. There are also the staples— Zumba, Pilates, yoga and kickboxing.

French Kiss Fitness has been around since 2006. Pole, chair dancing and break dancing were some of the first classes offered. Aerial arts came later in 2009. Think Cirque-du-Soleil. Those are the type of tricks you will learn when taking aerial silks/hammock or trapeze classes.  Aerial hammock is one of my favorites!  Within a few weeks of class you’ll learn moves where you get all tangled up in the silk and then you let go…don’t worry, the fabric will catch you.

I did a brief interview with the owner of French Kiss Fitness, Meagan Goodson, to ask some of the questions I have wanted answered since I began my membership in December.

Some people know the studio as Blue or Adult Dance & Fitness.  I asked, “Why the name change?”
“The name Adult Dance & Fitness was a conservative name that I picked when I was worried about how I was going to be perceived by the public.  Back in the day, I used to keep my classes super conservative…even the pole classes.  I wanted to be taken seriously as a fitness studio.  Over time, I have developed the ‘I don’t give a hoot’ attitude.  The studio became more sexy and much more liberal.  I decided that the old name didn’t fit anymore.  It had to be sexy and it had to make people want to walk in the door. French Kiss Fitness gets across the message I’m trying to deliver.  Now, it’s not a surprise when we have a lap dancing workshop or we have a sexy pole recital.”

One of the “sexy pole and aerial recitals” is coming up April 28th. You can get tickets at frenchkissfitness.com March 1st. The students and instructors perform to their own original routines. “It’s not every day a woman in her 20’s, 30’s, or 40’s gets to perform at an old school dance recital…so they really get into it,” Meagan added.

Many of the students are incredible and all of the teachers are amazing—to get a hint at what I’m talking about, here is Cambree Butcher— instructor Rebecca Butcher’s 11 year old daughter doing some moves on the aerial silks. She takes after her mom who was the 2010 winner of the “Polarity-Trixpert” competition.

Besides the annual recital, French Kiss Fitness members are frequently asked to attend other events. “What are some of the events French Kiss Fitness has performed at?”
“Zombie Prom, Pole Fetish, Dew Tour, DJ Paulie D concert, and we even entertain during farmers market during the summer months. We have performed at every Zombie Prom since the beginning and I plan on providing performances for the event for many years to come.”

“What are some of the benefits to attending the studio?”
“Benefits of attending the studio….where to I begin?  It’s fun, you make friends, you get in shape, you feel sexy, the bedroom is more fun, you’re allowed to have an ego, the variety of classes can’t be beat, we hire only the best instructors, and you’re allowed to shake your booty and not get judged.”

This is instructor Charlee Wagner performing her move “the sexy pretzel”.

Believe it or not, like all of F.K.F.’s teachers, she was a student there too!

Because French Kiss Fitness is growing in popularity Meagan had to open another studio in Sunset.  At the moment the majority of the memberships are sold out, but there is an unlimited amount of drop in classes, which are $10 a class.  There are a few 10 visits per month passes left as well.  Keep your eye out, though, F.K.F. offers membership deals throughout the year. I would recommend doing a drop in Pole Fitness 1 class to get acquainted with the studio.  It is Meagan’s favorite class to teach.

The Ogden location is at 2440 Washington Blvd.  If you have any questions feel free to email Meagan at danceogden@gmail.com.
