PopArt Popcorn spotlight & giveaway!

Popcorn is my favorite snack of all time, you really can’t go wrong.  In our house we consume a lot of it mainly with nutritional yeast and butter but I am always up for a little edible adventure. Popart Snacks is a local SLC company  that  is creating some unique popcorn flavors and putting them  into  some popart-esque packaging. This healthy snack is GMO free, hormone free,  all natural air popped goodness.

Popart sent me a box of 4 of their favorite flavors for me to test out for this giveaway including white cheddar jalapeno, Thai coconut curry, black pepper Parmesan and rosemary and truffle. I know I said I loved popcorn already but I don’t think I really understood what popcorn love was until now.  Everyone in my house had a different favorite  but we all agreed that every bag was amazing.  My personal favorite was the jalapeno, the perfect amount of spice and enough cheesy flavor to cool it down.

I asked the founders a few questions about how they got started and how they create their flavors so check it out below to learn more.  If you want to try some of their delicious treats for yourself you can buy online HERE or from one of the many grocery stores that stock Popart HERE.

Popart  is always developing new and exciting flavors  and this summer they will be at farmers markets with summer flavors like BBQ horseradish and honey lavender and you can win a variety box for yourself!  Enter to win with our handy rafflecopter entry form below!

How did PopArt get started?

We were living in Brooklyn, NY, in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country. While there, we were both working two very different jobs (Venessa a director of a childrens nonprofit & Mike a photographer/graphic designer). During our free time, we loved to experiment with the exotic spices and flavors that we had all around us. One of our favorite mediums to work with during this time was popcorn! After being married in 2010, we moved to Salt Lake City and started Pop Art Snacks in the summer of 2011 at the Millcreek Farmers Market. At first we packaged our yummy snacks at home, in a zip-lock bag, with a sticker – people loved it! After much encouragement from our customers, we decided to take the next step and move into a commercial kitchen. Shortly after, we began selling Pop Art Snacks in stores like Harmons, Caputo’s, Whole Foods & Liberty Heights. Although, it seems like yesterday, it has been almost 3 years since we were selling our popcorn in zip-lock bags at the farmers market!

How did you decided to mesh Popart and popcorn?

We both have a background in the arts and love the Pop Art Movement for its ability to transform something ordinary in to something extraordinary. Much like Andy Warhol did for the Campbell’s Soup Can, in the art world we do with popcorn. We elevate this classic snack, by infusing organic popcorn with fun and out-of-the-box flavor combinations, that are as healthy, as they are tasty!

How do you come up with the flavors?

We LOVE food! We are often out at a restaurant and try something unique and delicious. The flavors inspire us and we try to recreate some of the tastiness on popcorn.

What is your favorite thing about Utah?

Mike is originally from the Cottonwood Heights area and Venessa is a New Yorker. Together, we lived in New York for several years and enjoyed the diversity and excitement of what New York had to offer. After awhile, we craved some space and a patch of dirt that we could call our own to start a garden. We both felt drawn to the majestic mountains in Utah and moved here 3.5 years ago.We love to sneak away for a hike up Millcreek Canyon, Tanner Park or Neff’s Canyon with our dog. We also LOVE the mountains and skiing. Utah truly does have the “Greatest Snow on Earth!” Trips to Moab, Zion’s, Bryce & Lake Powell are also another reason we love living in Utah!
