Recreation Outlet’s Granite Gear Pack Review

backpack1If you haven’t heard of Recreation Outlet, you’ve been living under a rock. With locations in SLC, American Fork and Ogden, this shop is full of everything your little adventurous heart could ever want and with the best prices around.   Founded in 1987, Rec Outlet has grown from a small mom n pop outdoor shop to a huge online realtor. Their Ogden location hosts awesome sales and on any given day you will find it packed with locals.

Rec Outlet asked me to come by during one of their recent after hours sales to pick out a Granite Gear pack to try out around town.  After trying on all the different models I found the Voyageurs Campus pack fit me perfectly, that’s no easy feat considering how tiny I am.  My first trip out with my new pack I somehow forgot to put the batteries in my camera, fail. Luckily I was heading out on another adventure the next week.

I loaded my pack up with a picnic lunch, my camera, binoculars, chapstick, wallet, diapers, wipes, a water bottle and sweaters for the kids and we ventured out to The Great Salt Lake Nature Center.  The weather was perfect that day and despite my pack being full of  mom stuff,  I barely noticed the weight on my back.

The great thing about this pack is how many pockets it has. I love that there is a cushioned section for my computer, or  on this day binoculars, keeping it safe from everything else in my pack. The other pockets have sections for you phone, pens and other fun stuff like gold dinosaurs and temporary tattoos, the usual mom stuff.

My favorite feature on this pack are the stretchy mesh pockets on the sides. you can use these pockets to carry a water bottle or anything else you want to grab easily but don’t want to fall out. I stuffed some snacks and chapstick there, things I am always digging around for, and can easily whip them out as needed without worrying about losing them.

Overall this pack was pretty awesome. It’s not too complex and has just enough cushion to keep you comfy  around town or on the trails.  The size is perfect for petite women like myself and it’s even adjustable enough for kiddos to wear.  For the price, it’s a great buy and I would definitely recommend one for the adventure mamas out there.
