Relaxing at Sego Lily Spa

It has been a pretty chaotic January so far with the Indie Ogden Awards, a massive sinus infection, a shedding husky dog, a kid with walking pneumonia, 1 round of stomach flu, a couple of falls on ice and falling asleep on the couch a few too many times while binge watching Gilmore Girls. My body was in 100 different kinds of knots, and it’s was only halfway through the month.

Thankfully, just as I was ready to throw myself under a steamroller to straighten myself out, Sego Lily stepped in to fix me up. It has been way too long since I have treated myself to some pampering.  I think the last kind thing I did for myself was buy a basket of chicken wings at City Club and didn’t share with anyone, Needless to say, a day at the spa was like Disney Land to me.

Sego Lily has several locations, but the one closest to me was in Layton.  It is kind of hidden in between 2 Asian restaurants and from the outside looks like it will be super small. Don’t let the outside fool you, walking in is like tumbling through the back of the wardrobe and standing up in Narnia. There are twists, turns, fancy relaxing rooms galore and the most incredible smells.

Obviously, this place is designed by and for women because there are snacks laid out everywhere, yes please and thank you!

The first stop when you go to Sego Lily is the changing room. You get a robe and a pair of spa sandals and go into a beautiful locker room to change up. Next, you wait in one of 2 waiting areas to sip tea, eat snacks and wait to be pampered.

My first treatment was a Harvest Facial which entailed laying on a bed, getting my face scrubbed with warm tingling spices followed up by a scalp and shoulder massage. So, yes I fell asleep instantly.

Once I woke from my power nap I had a minute to sip some more tea before moving on to the grand finale – a full body deep tissue massage. If the masseuse asks you how much pressure you like, ladies, just say all the pressure! Listen, knots aren’t going to unwind themselves with some like touching; you have to get elbows and force up in there. The massage therapist I was assigned to was magical, or at least had super strong hands and knew how to really dig into my muscles.  It definitely hurt so good. You know the kind of hurt that just feels awesome? Yeah, that kind.

I was suffering from allergies from hell and couldn’t breathe but that didn’t stop me from dozing off again as soon as I was given a scalp massage. Luckily, they let you get up at your pace and leave you in a quiet room while you wake up and figure out where the hell you are again.

Afterward, you are instructed to drink lots of water, do it, chug it, drink it all. When you get a deep massage, you are releasing a ton of toxins, and if you let it gunk all up, it’s only going to leave you feeling sore. I came prepared with a huge water bottled and chugged the whole thing on my ride home. As soon as I got to my bed, I fell face first and woke up a day and a half later ready to conquer the world.

There are so many incredible packages at Sego Lily from simple pedicures to full on spa days with your besties. So go check it out, support local and for the love of all things holy, treat yourself! As Ru Paul says ‘If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?’.
