Top 10 local must haves for summer

Summer is upon us and adventure awaits!   Ogden is not only a beautiful outdoors mecca it is also a town booming with local talent and with that talent comes some amazing products.  Here is my top 10 list of  goods made in Ogden or made by an Ogden local that you will want to have with you on your summer adventures.  From edibles to wearables, Ogden has it all!

1 Ogden Made

When cycling on our many trails or just on a stroll downtown, you will need a rad bag to carry all your essentials.  Ogden Made makes customization messenger bags  as well as  laptop sleeves and a shopping bag aptly named the “25th street tote”.  Each bag is signed by the artisan who made it so you know you are getting a quality hand-made product, can you get much more local than that?

We all need to indulge a little and what better way than with award-winning chocolate?  With over 50 years of chocolate experience, second-generation chocolatier Ruth  Kendrick creates edible works of art with locally sourced ingredients.  You can find these treats downtown at the Queen Bee and several shops in SLC.

4 Stock & Barrel

Although on the pricier end of the spectrum, these handmade leather bags are worth every penny. Each bag is made by hand in limited quantities so chances are you’ll be the only one around with one of these beauties. We all need to splurge every now and then and this purchase will last a lifetime.

5 Persona Swimwear

North Ogden’s Emily Sanders creates stunning swimwear for all shapes and sizes and in patterns and styles you won’t find anywhere else. Persona Swimwear brings  whimsical shapes and patterns to swimwear to create looks such as the Paris tankini, Alice in Wonderland one piece and the Roller derby suit. Why wear just any swimwear when you can wear one designed by a local?

6 Five Wives

What’s summer without a cocktail, right? This local brew is column distilled from 110 corn and filtered multiple times through active carbon. Five Wives is then blended with spring water from Ogden Canyon in Ogden, UT. Your cocktails will literally contain the essence of Ogden!  Don’t forget to try one of their recipes online, ‘Summer in Heaven‘ anyone? Get your bottle at any state-run liquor store or request it at your favorite local bar.

7 Miss Stevi Marie’s Jewelry & Pretties

Okay, I might be biased with this one, I mean this woman is as sweet as pie and has left gorgeous fresh laid eggs on my porch as gifts several times…how can you not love that?  Really though, Miss Stevi is talented and her jewelry and flower head-bands are a must have for all you fashionable ladies this summer (Her Instagram is also swoon worthy).  You can find her at the Ogden farmers’s market or on her Etsy store.

8 Mason Jar Coffee Roasters

Mason Jar is  a local cafe  that  does everything from scratch right down to roasting their own coffee. Their house roasted beans are sold in a mason jar ( of course!)  and is probably the best coffee I have ever brewed at home.  If you don’t have a french press don’t worry, this cafe also sells all your essentials for brewing at home.

9 Beehive Cheese

Cheese is an essential for any picnic, party or midnight snack attack and we are lucky enough to have award-winning cheese makers among us. Beehive Cheese has won awards all around the world for their insanely good cheese and you can pick up their goods, along with a plethora of Utah products to pair it with, at their local shop.

10 Kahuna Creations

Ogden Native Steve McBride   has made quite a name for himself with his unique boards and his invention of the land paddle called the Kahuna Stick. Kahuna Creations now creates all kinds boards and accessories and are sold all around the world. Hop on one of these for a  cruise along the parkway or take it on your trips for free and easy transportation. I hear there is a  great deal on these boards in  the BDO outlet!
